APPETITE

I find myself being fortunate to having witnessed three biggest changes of the 19th century – television, telephone and Internet.
I still remember in the good old days of 70’s and 80’s I was used to writing letters and sending through post. I use to exchange letters with my closes friend and relatives frequently. Every day waiting for the Postman was part of life and when he had no letters for me, I would say ‘Oh no letters today.”
Mid 80’s, television came into India with Asian Games and it started changing the social structure of the country. The change happened so quietly that no one realized that when we started drifting away from cohesively bonded society to individuality. […]

SUN OF LIFE

Career has direct impact on what one is, what one does, his/ her relationship with people around them, their place in society or even how one should be perceived by others. It not only makes us happy or sad but also effects directly our families. We all invest time, money and energy; on each aspect of our life and save a lot for securing our future. Once we get in a  job or profession, each of us start planing our lives – marriage, children, their education, retirement etc. We all try to secure our future by saving money or building assets. But I have not met many people who invest on their careers. Some people may say, how can I invest on my career(other than studying or training), but I differ with them. Investing in career may be in several ways. I was very clear from day one, where I want to be. And much before (at age of 25), I set my goal to make myself achieve a national role by age of 35. I started my career at the age of 20 as a sales person who later got into different roles of managing dealer sales channel in consumer durable, office automation, automobile and consumer telecom industry. In 1989 (at age of 34) when an opportunity from Dainik Bhaskar (a newspaper) to head Mini Metro Division in marketing department came to me, I jumped for it. And this was at the time when media industry have just opened it’s doors for outside industry people. […]

Comparative Advertising

In the world of up man’ship, every company is trying to put forward their point to possible consumers and wanting to prove their next competition wrong. This urge and want is so strong that such companies/ marketers do not hesitate in producing comparative advertisements to prove their point.I came across one such print advertisement in today’s Times of India, Mumbai edition. This half page advertisement is being relased by Raj Travels.http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Default/Scripting/ArticleWin.asp?From=Archive&Source=Page&Skin=TOINEW&BaseHref=TOIM/2011/01/12&PageLabel=13&ForceGif=true&EntityId=Ad01309&ViewMode=HTML&GZ=T

Pleasure of Washing Car and Watering Plants

By Sanjeev Singhai.

Last week, I went on a day trip to home town and I am yet not been able to get over with the experience. Since I have shifted to metro city Mumbai, I have started forgetting the small town pleasures. This short trip made me realise that what a person, who lives in a metro, never get from their life?Pleasures like – washing your car with water pipe in the morning or watering the plants of your garden or picking your newspaper from door even if you get up at 5:30a.m. or you just knock on doors of friends and chat them for an hour or even going to Haat for buying fresh vegetable.Ahh… list is countless and I can keep on listing many more… […]

Obituary: Atul Maheshwari

Untimely demise of Atulji (as he was popularly known) came as a great shock and I am yet not being able to recover from the shock, even though almost 24 hours has lapsed. In my brief stint of working with Amar Ujala as GM – Marketing, I got opportunity to be close to Atul Maheshwari, a man with gentle voice and who always wore a soft  smile on his face (and of course who loved his smoking) . I knew him as a cool operator, who knew how to handle different people in complex culture of newspaper industry and manage people.Surely it is a great loss for Amar Ujala family and Amar Ujala will never be the same without him and his presence would be felt forever. Decade of 2000 – Life Changing

As first decade of 2000 set and the second decade started, it forced me to take a pause and made me to start scribbling for the people who might visit this post.

Change

We all know that change is a constant but for me changes of this decade are going to leave it’s everlasting impact on my rest of life and the way I am going to live hereafter.

A decade of ambitions, struggles, changes, redefining values, deep sorrows, shifting loyalties, betrayals, re-organising energies, fight back and rediscovering one self. […]
