Ever wondered how much google knows you? Hope not? Everyone is talking about data privacy, but how many of us have checked their own Google Account setting and tried to find how much information Google is capturing about us to serve the advertisements and content. Similarly, even Facebook is obtaining information on us. It has become of utmost importance that we all become aware of this fact and only share the information which we want to share and don’t allow our private information in the public domain.
Here is an easy way to find and remain in command of what we want to disclose to companies like Google.
Log on to your Google account and go to “Manage Your Account.” You will find “Privacy & personalization” section. (Refer below image)
Click on “Manage your data & personalization” (refer red arrow in the above image). You will have below display:
Since most of the people don’t dive deep, the chance is that your “Ad personalization” will be in “On” status. At the bottom of this section, you will find “Go to ad settings.” Click on it.
You may get shocked while going through the list of activities listed in “How your ads are personalized.” Welcome to the world of data capturing. 🙂
Google does allow you to control what you wish to share and what not? Click on each activity, and pop up will show you the option of turning the activity off.
Similarly, you can also visit “Activity Controls” from “Privacy & personalization” section to find and manage your activities.
It has become crucial for all of us to carefully opt for information about us on the internet on various websites and mobile apps. Usually, these options are not displayed prominently in settings, and you will be required to dig deeper into settings to find the same. But I guess it worth taking the pain of seeing these settings carefully and control them ourselves instead of choosing the default setting wherein we expose all information about us.
