Key Qualities of Successful Salesman

Every year thousands of youngsters starts their career in Sales. Everyone wants to succeed and fulfill their life’s dreams. But why, only very few are able to grow beyond a point in their career? Why only handful of them, in their life time, reach to the top of the corporate ladder? Why only very few salesman, can achieve the position of a Chief Executive Officer? Because they forget to focus on key qualities of salesman while building their career. So what are key qualities of successful salesman?

In my opinion, the successful salesman or people are not very different from any normal person. What makes them different is, their value system and attitude toward their own life. Here are few key qualities, which I noticed in successful sales people over the years:

SUN OF LIFE

Career has direct impact on what one is, what one does, his/ her relationship with people around them, their place in society or even how one should be perceived by others. It not only makes us happy or sad but also effects directly our families.We all invest time, money and energy; on each aspect of our life and save a lot for securing our future. Once we get in a  job or profession, each of us start planing our lives – marriage, children, their education, retirement etc. We all try to secure our future by saving money or building assets. But I have not met many people who invest on their careers.Some people may say, how can I invest on my career(other than studying or training), but I differ with them. Investing in career may be in several ways. I was very clear from day one, where I want to be. And much before (at age of 25), I set my goal to make myself achieve a national role by age of 35. I started my career at the age of 20 as a sales person who later got into different roles of managing dealer sales channel in consumer durable, office automation, automobile and consumer telecom industry.In 1989 (at age of 34) when an opportunity from Dainik Bhaskar (a newspaper) to head Mini Metro Division in marketing department came to me, I jumped for it. Aimless

After writing first 2 blogs, its been a long gap. For 2 reasons – first, I was too busy and second that I didn’t knew what to write? So I decided to scribble aimlessly. Now I have to see how much I am able to scribble aimlessly? But I am quite sure this is going to be hard for me and at some point of time, I will drift to a specific topic.And here I am, as I was writing a thought clicked to my mind.

Isn’t it true that most of us start their lives aimlessly. We are never in control of what keeps happening around us. Mostly we flow with the events as they take place and keep aligning ourselves with them. And this is an honest answer – no matter how much we say “I did this” or “this how I tackled that problem”, truth remains that our behavior is reaction to occurrence/ circumstances. […]
